Co-Founder & Licensed Mental Heath CounselorEmily believes that everyone deserves the chance to grow for themselves and she is there to foster and encourage that growth that is in everyone. For the past decade, she has worked within community organizations. She has experience with prenatal, neonatal, postnatal, children, adolescents, families, and individuals. Working with all these populations and being a human, friend, daughter, new mom, and more herself; she learned there are a lot of different stressors in this world, and you shouldn’t have to navigate them on your own!
She considers herself a holistic, person-centered counselor and believes working on your mind is just as important as working on your body! By working together, she hopes that you can collaborate to make your mind a happier, more at ease, place.

Co-Founder & Licensed Mental Health Counselor Associate
Having earned her graduate degree from Northwestern University and a current PhD Candidate, Jayme utilizes an integrative narrative therapeutic approach, incorporating person-centered therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to help individuals navigate life’s challenges and transitions.
With a focus on helping clients form and claim their personal narratives, Jayme specializes in working with adolescents and young adults, women experiencing significant life changes, and individuals navigating relational dynamics. As a Certified Military Trauma Counselor, she also has extensive experience supporting service members and military spouses, addressing the unique stressors, transitions, and relationship challenges that come with military life.
As both a clinician and an advocate, Jayme creates a supportive and collaborative space where clients can explore their identities, process past experiences, and build resilience. She believes in the power of self-discovery and storytelling to foster healing and growth, empowering clients to live with authenticity and purpose.

Licensed Independant Social Worker & Clinical Supervisor
Kati Tavares is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker in Rhode Island who has been practicing since 2009. Kati has experience working with individuals and couples facing chronic illness, life changes, relationships, depression, and anxiety. As a wife and mom, Kati understands the importance of being present and offering guidance through the difficulties life can throw our way. Outside of work, Kati enjoys spending time with her kids, practicing yoga, and animal rescue (she used to serve as the volunteer director for a rescue group in Dallas, TX when she lived there).
Kati’s work with supervisees continues to honor where they are and help them to trust the process. She encourages them to take time for self-care and that they have everything they need already inside them.

Compassionate assessments and ESA letters to help support your emotional wellbeing
Shore Thing Therapy offers evaluations and letters for Emotional Support Animals (ESAs) with care and integrity. If appropriate, we provide documentation to support your emotional wellness needs, helping you navigate housing or travel accommodations with confidence. All ESA letters are issued following a thoughtful clinical assessment to ensure they meet ethical and legal standards.

We’re excited to share that Shore Thing Therapy is now in-network with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Rhode Island and Aetna. For other insurance providers, we are currently in the credentialing process. In the meantime, we’re happy to provide an itemized superbill that you can submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement.

Standard therapy sessions at Shore Thing Therapy are 50 minutes. However, as a holistic, client-centered practice, we offer flexibility to tailor session lengths based on your individual needs and goals. Extended sessions may be available depending on insurance coverage and approval.

Your first session is a chance for us to get to know each other. We’ll talk about what brings you to therapy, your goals, and how we can work together. You’re welcome to share as much or as little as you feel comfortable with. We will move at your pace.

Yes. Your privacy is extremely important to us. Everything you share in therapy is kept confidential, with a few legal exceptions such as risk of harm to self or others, or in cases of abuse or neglect.

That is completely okay. Many people feel uncertain at first. You are welcome to schedule a consultation to ask questions and explore whether this feels like a good fit. No pressure, just support.

An initial intake session is $175. Follow-up sessions are $150. Rates may vary slightly depending on the service and provider. Please reach out if you have questions about costs or would like to discuss what option might work best for you.
